Our first port of call was the island of Malta. This is located near the island of Sicily and was the site where the apostle Paul shipwrecked on his way to Rome. He apparently stayed there for 3 months and many of the churches on the island (all Catholic) are named in his honor. We went to the city of Mdina - the "Silent City." It's a medieval town built around 700 BC and most roads are too small for cars to drive on. As a result, only a few hundred people live within the walls and it appears to have been trapped in time. Later, we experienced a wine tasting at an old palace called Palazzo Stagno. Most of the island resonates with history of knights and medieval culture. So intriguing to see places that have existed for thousands of years.
